A Happy Birthday to You

Oh look! A new post!

I am actually very excited to be posting this because it marks a significant milestone in my "art life":
My first (real) Commission!!!
*squeals loudly*
It was sooo exciting!! XD But enough about me.... *cough*

I'd like to thank Shaun H. for being so brave as to commission me. ;] He even was so kind as to write a little testimonial once I was finished:

"I commissioned H.L. for a piece of personalized artwork as a gift for my wife and she delivered it to expectations and at very short notice!  Very talented, very professional.  Thank you."

Haha... I'm smiling like a loon right now. (Ahhh, easily excited...)

Anyway, here is the finished drawing:

Meenu, I hope you had a wonderful birthday! XD

I also love ANY AND ALL COMMENTS from you amazing people!! It's not that hard to leave a comment, honestly, and I love your input. Please help me improve my artwork! :D

Procrastinating... again...

Yes, I know I promised to post within the week...

*guilty face*

But hold the tomatoes for a second! I have a valid excuse!

I've been so busy with homework, and softball, and an upcoming piano recital, and robotics club, and... *sigh*... that I barely get much time to doodle, much less draw.

My life is crazy.

Well, I did draw this little chibi me the other day in one of my school notebooks:

This is me. Way too often.

*cough* I have problem with procrastination. It's very sad, I know.

I need to work on it...
...tomorrow.

Just kidding. ;] I really am trying hard to curb this procrastinating tendency of mine. A verse that comes to me often is Proverbs 27:1 (NLT)
"Don't brag about tomorrow, since you don't know what the day will bring."

Haha. God really does know us humans well. He knows all our bad habits. With His help, not just my own, I know I can fix my "putting-off-til-the-last-dang-minute" problem.

Hopefully it'll be better by college... ;]

I'll post again when I can.
(There, no lying.)

30 Day Drawing Challenge... Days 1-6

Hello beautiful world!

Yes, I am still among the living. ;]

During Spring Break, I decided to start a 30 Day Drawing Challenge. I've wanted to do one for a while now, but have been too busy to start it. The one I'm doing is by ComCom!. So, without further ado...here are days one through six.

Day 01: Draw yourself as a superhero
-I know, very exaggerated. But I like it and I'm the artist. ;]-

Day 02: Favorite character from childhood
-I used to adore Snow White. Maybe it was her way with all those fuzzy creatures... hmmm. -

Day 03: Famous Robot
-Ugh, I hate drawing robots. I tried drawing Wall-e, but couldn't make him recognizable. So I drew R2-D2. -

Day 04: The current or last comic you read
-"Lackadaisy Cats" by Tracy Butler. You should check it out. Three words: cats, St. Louis, and the Prohibition. ;] -

Day 05: A video game character
-Chibi Link, from Legend of Zelda. Kind of rough (WIP?)-

Day 06: Current favorite series
-Pandora Hearts is my favorite series right now, and probably will continue to be so for a while. ^_^ It is awesome!! *squeals* Oh, sorry, the boy is the main character Oz. -

I will try to post a lot sooner than last time. (With more drawing challenges. It's 30 Days remember? So prepare yourself! lol.)

Until next time. :)

Drawing Tips #1 - Mouths

Since, I haven't been able to draw much lately, I've finally decided to at least post something. This reference sheet was actually for a friend of mine. (It's not recent...but so what? It's my blog.) ;]

So, here it is:

I will try to post something more recent within the next week or so... (for those few who actually check this humble art blog regularly. *cough* Yeah right. *cough*) Lol.

Feel free to leave a comment to request a certain tutorial. I'd love it! ;)

Experiment No. K-9

Wow. I am really bad at this blogging thing sometimes.
*facepalm*

Even with school, however, I'm still finding time to draw! I've been working more on just quick sketches, random drawings, originals, et cetera. (So nothing really "blog-worthy".) Finally I drew something I can be proud to share! *claps*
However, it needs a bit of explaining...

Note: This will make more sense to those who have read Maximum Ride.

Okay, the explanation:
This (unfortunate) boy is a mix of wolf, bird, and human. His name is KIX (named so because of the tattoo on the inside of his arm K-IX; IX being the Roman numeral nine). He received the ears, tail, and wings from The School--an illegal scientific research organization, and also the main antagonists in the MR series.

He is probably about three to four in my drawing, (or your best guess... *shrugs*), and very sad. :( Wouldn't you if you were a scientific experiment?

I cannot claim the "rights" to him though, he is the OC (original character) of another talented writer, of whom I do not know her actual name. She wrote a fanfiction for Maximum Ride titled "The Wings of Wrath". Her writing was very beautiful, but the things I best liked about it were her OCs. I almost can't believe they're not in the actual series! And since I'm into drawing animal/human characters lately, from the moment of KIX's introduction I wanted to draw him. There are other characters and scenes I want to draw from that story, but I'm not promising anything yet.

Originally, it was going to be a more comic/manga style...but as usual I got a bit carried away... ;) Anyway, hope you like it!
^_^

Just the flat, full picture...

Ciao for now!

Let the Little Children come...

"But Jesus said, 'Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.'"
Matthew 19:14

Hello dear friends!
I thought I should probably let you know I'm still alive... ;) but because of school and such, this is going to be very short.

I sketched this little friend of mine at church last week. It was amazing--she actually sat (relatively) still for, like, three minutes! O_O Lol. Little kids are so cute!

Adios amigos.
